Ibn Rajab reports that classical Arab doctors used to say:
الْحَمِيَّةُ رَأْسُ الدَّوَاءِ وَالْبِطْنَةُ رَأْسُ الدَّاءِ
Diet is the foundation of medicine and the stomach is the foundation of illness.
