Qur'anic Verse: People started worshiping Calf in Moses absence

 Surah AI-Baqarah

 وَإِذْ وَاعَدْنَا مُوسَىٰ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ثُمَّ اتَّخَذْتُمُ الْعِجْلَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَأَنْتُمْ ظَالِمُونَ (2:51)

اور ہم نے (حضرت) موسیٰ ﴿علیہ السلام﴾ سے چالیس راتوں کا وعده کیا، پھر تم نے اس کے بعد بچھڑا پوجنا شروع کردیا اور ﻇالم بن گئے (2:51)

 And (remember) when We appointed for Musa (Moses) forty nights, and (in his absence) you took the calf (for worship), and you were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.). (2:51)

 ثُمَّ عَفَوْنَا عَنْكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ (2:52)

لیکن ہم نے باوجود اس کے پھر بھی تمہیں معاف کردیا، تاکہ تم شکر کرو (2:52)

 Then after that We forgave you so that you might be grateful. (2:52)

 وَإِذْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَالْفُرْقَانَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ (2:53)

اور ہم نے (حضرت) موسیٰ﴿علیہ السلام﴾ کو تمہاری ہدایت کے لئے کتاب اور معجزے عطا فرمائے (2:53)

 And (remember) when We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)] and the criterion (of right and wrong) so that you may be guided aright. (2:53)
