The Excellence of Tawheed & Istighfar

Shaykh ul Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah - rahimullah- said:
‘Seeking forgiveness from Allaah is from the greatest of good deeds, it encompasses many matters, so whoever senses deficiency in his speech, or his actions, or his situation, or his provision, or his heart turning to and fro, them it is upon him to adhere to Tawheed and seeking forgiveness from Allaah, since in these two matters there is the cure, if both those matters are done with Ikhlaas (sincerity).’

Seeking forgiveness For the Believers
Allaah Ta’ala said:
وَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ
<<And those who came after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.>> [Hashr:10]
And Allaah said:
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا
<< My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. And to the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, and disbelievers, etc.) grant You no increase but destruction!>> [Nuh:28]
From Ubadat bin Samitt who said the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
” من استغفر للمؤمنين والمؤمنات كان له بعددهم من الحسنات “
‘Whoever seeks forgiveness for male believers and female believers then he will have that in amount of good deeds.’
