Ruling on Eid greetings

*ℹGiving ‘Eid Greetings Before the ‘Eid Salah Is Not Permissible and Opposes the Sunnah.*

❓Shaykh Al-Fawzaan (hafidhahullaah) was asked about the ruling of giving ‘Eid greetings and congratulations a day or two days before the 'Eid Salah.

🅰The Shaykh responded:

It is not permissible to give congratulations and 'Eid greetings before the 'Eid. Rather it is to be done on 'Eid day (itself). And a custom has spread amongst the people and it is congratulating for the 'Eid before (the 'Eid) by days or hours, or even before the 'Eid salah, rather they compete in this and claim that he was the first to congratulate, and this opposes the Sunnah, for the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and the companions (radiallaahu 'anhum) did not used to congratulate (one another) for the 'Eid except after the tasleem of 'Eid salah. And indeed the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: It is upon you to adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly guided Khulafa’ after me. And what is obligatory upon the Muslims is striving to refer back to and look into the Sunnah of their Prophet, and this is from reviving the Sunan and causing bid'ah to die out.
